DAYS HOTEL HAS BEEN REBRANDED AS A HOLIDAY INN

Back then the rooms were being offered at £49.00 per night walking in off the street. Today [16 May 2024] the lowest price is that I can find is Euro 255.00 which is way beyond what I would be willing to pay for any hotel room in Belfast.

Not long after I photographed this hotel on Hope Street it Belfast it was renovated and rebranded as a Holiday Inn by Lord Rana's Andras House.

Andras House also owns the Ramada Plaza Hotel in south Belfast, a Holiday Inn Express and Ibis in the university area, an Ibis in the city centre and serviced apartments on the Lisburn Road.

Also in , the Holiday Inn on Belfast's Ormeau Avenue was bought by Dalata. It has since been rebranded as Clayton Hotel.

Days Hotels is a part of the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts chain, which is headquartered in the United States. The chain was founded in 1970 by Cecil B. Day, who opened the first location in Tybee Island, Georgia.

Before creating Days Inn, Cecil B. Day had worked in real estate in Atlanta, Georgia, where he built and developed apartment complexes. He sold his holdings to Phipps Land Company for $14 million in 1969, which was the largest real estate transaction in the state of Georgia at the time.

Sandy Row is one of the oldest residential areas of Belfast. Its growth in population was largely due to the expansion of the linen industry in Rowland Street. The name Sandy Row derived from the sandbank which abutted the road that followed the high-water mark resulting from the flow off the tidal waters of the Lagan River estuary.

As for the safety of the Sandy Row area, it is generally considered safe during the daytime. However, like many places, if you are unfamiliar with an area, it is best to avoid it after dark. It’s always a good idea to stay aware of your surroundings and follow local advice.

Holiday Inn is a different brand but it’s under the same parent company. Holiday Inn is a chain of hotels based in Atlanta, Georgia and is a brand of IHG Hotels & Resorts.

The chain was founded in 1952 by Kemmons Wilson, who opened the first location in Memphis, Tennessee. It operates hotels under the names Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, and Holiday Inn Resorts.

As of 2018, Holiday Inn has hotels at over 1,100 locations. So, if the Days Hotel in Belfast was rebranded as the Holiday Inn, it would still be part of the same parent company, IHG Hotels & Resorts. This is a common practice in the hospitality industry as companies often rebrand hotels to better align with their portfolio or to refresh the property’s image.
