Of all the parks in the city of Belfast the Botanic Gardens is my favourite. It contains one of the city’s most famous buildings, the wrought iron and glass Palm House, built in the 1850s, and recently restored. It is one of the finest pieces of Victorian architecture in Ireland.
Unfortunately I have found it difficult to find detailed information about the features that I like. After years I eventually found detailed information about the bandstand because it has a twin in another park. It was almost impossible to find any information about the "Chinese Pagoda" and now there is the Bandstand featured in this series of photographs.
The only information that I could find that related to the shelter was that there is an active charity with a mission to protect and maintain the Botanic Gardens and it infrastructure and one of their projects is the restoration of the bandstand.
Friends of Belfast Botanic Gardens (FoBBG) is a registered charity dedicated to supporting and promoting the Botanic Gardens.
Their mission includes:
Promoting the Gardens: They organise events, activities, and educational programmes to raise awareness and appreciation for the Gardens' rich history, diverse plant collections, and importance as a community space.
Supporting Conservation and Education: They work alongside the Gardens' staff to fundraise and support conservation projects, educational initiatives, and research efforts.
Enhancing the Visitor Experience: They contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the Gardens, ensuring that visitors of all ages can enjoy its beauty and educational value.
Advocating for the Gardens: They act as advocates for the Gardens, raising awareness of its significance and ensuring its continued success as a valuable asset to the city of Belfast.
