WHAT HAS CHANGED SINCE JUNE 2014

The Belfast Waterfront area has undergone significant transformation since your visit in June 2014. Several factors have contributed to the development of this area:

Urban Regeneration: The area was historically industrial, with shipyards and docks. However, as the city's economy shifted away from heavy industry, there was a need to revitalize the area. The development of the Waterfront Hall in the 1990s was an early catalyst for change.

Titanic Quarter: The creation of Titanic Quarter on the former shipyard site has been a major driver of development. This mixed-use development includes residential, commercial, and leisure facilities, as well as Titanic Belfast, a world-class visitor attraction.

Strategic Vision: The Belfast City Council and other stakeholders developed a strategic vision for the waterfront, aiming to create a vibrant and attractive destination for residents and visitors alike. This vision included improvements to public spaces, the creation of new cultural and leisure facilities, and the promotion of sustainable development.

Investment: Significant public and private investment has been poured into the area, including the development of new hotels, offices, and apartments, as well as the construction of new infrastructure, such as the Lagan Weir footbridge.

Specific changes since 2014:

Waterfront Hall Extension: A major extension to the Waterfront Hall has been completed, increasing its capacity and making it a premier conference and events venue.
New Hotels: Several new hotels have opened in the area, including the AC Hotel by Marriott and the Grand Central Hotel.
Lagan Weir Footbridge: A new pedestrian and cycle bridge, the Lagan Weir Footbridge, has been constructed, improving connectivity between the city center and the Titanic Quarter.
Public Realm Improvements: The public realm has been significantly improved, with new walkways, landscaping, and lighting.
New Developments: New residential and commercial developments have continued to spring up, further transforming the area.
The transformation of Belfast's waterfront area is ongoing, with further developments planned for the future. The aim is to create a world-class waterfront destination that celebrates the city's maritime heritage while providing a vibrant and attractive environment for all.
