MEDIATEMPLE TO GODADDY MAY 2023

Within a few months all my sites will be self hosted and while that does present many problems I can say, based on experience, that shared hosting and even dedicated WP hosting is, at best, unreliable. For a number of years I used MediaTemple and while I may not have been over impressed by the quality of service I was reasonable happy. However, MediaTemple was purchased by GoDaddy and my sites were transitioned this week and I am less than pleased.

However, to be fair, the site OSX128.COM which is now hosted by GoDaddy is faster than any of my self hosted sites ... this is mainly because it is what is known as a 'headless' WordPress site.

KENNEDY QUAY IN CORKPHOTOGRAPHED MAY 2023 PUBLISHED 15 JUNE 2023

I had planned to visit and photograph Custom House Quay after visiting Kennedy Quay but when I arrived at Kennedy Quay I had to shelter under some industrial equipment for about an hour because of an extreme thunder storm.

During its 400 year history, Kennedy Quay and its associated docklands have been the seat of commerce and trade for the City of Cork however the area has been in decline for many years.

COBH TRAIN STATIONPHOTOGRAPHED MAY 2023

When I arrived in Cobh the weather was beautiful but about twenty minutes later I had to return to the station in order to shelter from an intense thunder storm. I decided to get the next train towards Cork city centre but as the weather had improved I got off the train at Rushbrook but after about twenty minutes more rain arrived.

I USE A MAC MINI AS A SERVER BUT I PHOTOGRAPHED A MINIMAC IN CORK IN MAY 2011

Minimac is on the back but I cannot find any reference to this variation of the mini so I am assuming that it is a mini pickup. The pick-up, launched in 1961 at the same time as the original 997 Cooper, is the second rarest of the product range, with about 58,000 produced against around 49,000 Mokes and 520,000 vans. Note: Minimac appears to be a brand of rear facing infant car seat.

STREET ART AT THE WILLIAM CLARKE AND SON BUILDINGNOT MUCH TO SEE IN MAY 2023

William Clarke & Son was a tobacco company that was founded in 1830 at South Main Street, Cork, Ireland. In January 1924, following the formation of the Irish Free State, the United Kingdom trade of William Clarke & Son was transferred to Dublin and taken over by Ogden's.

CROSSE'S GREEN WAS ONCE HOME TO SOME REALLY GOOD STREET ARTNOT MUCH TO SEE IN MAY 2023

My visit was somewhat disappointing as I failed to find any worthwhile street art ... it was a bit of a mess.

The Crosse's Green area is one of the most historic areas in the city. The Dominican priory of St Mary's of the Isle was established here in 1229. In later centuries the area was a hive of industrial activity. Brewing, distilling, inshore fishing, and milling were dominant enterprises and timber yards were also established. With the decline of the industries in the late nineteen seventies the Crosse's Green area became quite shabby and run-down and featured some excellent examples of street art.

COVE STREET AND NICHOLAS CHURCH LANEMAY 2023

The street "Nicholas Church Lane" is located in the southwest of Cork. It is about 45 meters long.

St Nicholas's Church is a significant mid nineteenth-century Gothic-Revival Church, with much original fabric intact. Designed by Welland, with steeple by Atkins and transept windows by Hemmings. Built to replace earlier church on same site. Deconsecrated, and internal fittings and fixtures stripped out in early 1990's.

The church is described as follows: "Detached Gothic-Revival Church, built 1850; formerly Church of Ireland, now closed and deconsecrated; having slate steeply pitched roofs and limestone roof to steeple, squared limestone ashlar walls, stepped buttresses and cut limestone verges, with open timber roof to gallery and timber panelling to Chancel; set in elevated site with graveyard, limestone ashlar gateways to Cove Street and to Nicholas Church Lane, cast iron gates, with overthrow to Cove Street gateway; currently undergoing renovation."

The opening of the South Bank office complex and Dean's Hall student-apartment complex in 1994 revitalised the area to some extent.

Crosse's Green is also home to Meitheal Mara, a group devoted to researching the history of the Irish currach.

RORY GALLAGHER TRIBUTE BY GERALDINE CREEDON PHOTOGRAPHED IN MAY 2023

In 1997 Paul Street Plaza was renamed as Rory Gallagher Place and a memorial sculpture was unveiled. The unique bronze sculpture was created by Cork artist Geraldine Creedon in honour of Rory Gallagher, at the request of Cork Corporation and Rory's family. The bronze sculpture takes the form of a guitar on one side, while the other side consists of intertwined lyrics from Rory's Jinx album.

Rory Gallagher was an Irish blues-rock multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and bandleader. Born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, and raised in Cork, Gallagher recorded solo albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, after forming the band Taste during the late 1960s. He was a talented guitarist known for his charismatic performances and dedication to his craft. Gallagher's albums have sold in excess of 30 million copies worldwide.Gallagher received a liver transplant in 1995, but died of complications later that year in London at the age of 47.

SAINT FIN BARRE’S CATHEDRAL IN CORK CITYPHOTOGRAPHED IN MAY 2023

Finbarr was born in about 550. He was, by legend, given Gougane Barra as a place of contemplation, and visited Cork city to lay the foundation stones for the "one true Christian faith".[3] According to tradition, after Finbarr died his remains were brought to Cork to be enclosed in a shrine near the site of today's cathedral.

Archaeological evidence suggests the first site at Fin Barre's probably dates from the 7th century, and consisted of a church and round tower that survived until the 12th century, after which it fell into neglect, or was destroyed during the Norman invasions.

SAINT FIN BARRE'S CATHEDRAL OLD PHOTOGRAPHSPHOTOGRAPHED MAY 2011 REPROCESSED IN JUNE 2023

The church grounds are south of the River Lee on Holy Island, on one of the many inlets forming the Great Marsh of Munster. Saint Fin Barre's is on the site of at least two previous church buildings, each dedicated to Fin Barre of Cork, patron saint of Cork city and founder of the monastic hermitage at Gougane Barra.

RAILWAY STATION AT RUSHBROOKE IN CORK CORK TO COBH LINE

Rushbrooke has a railway station on the main Cork to Cobh line, located close to the Cork Dockyard Commercial Development, Rushbrooke railway station, which opened on 10 March 1862 and closed for goods traffic on 2 December 1974.

DANU BY KITSUNE JOLENETHE LEE WALK MAY 2023

The North Mall to Mardyke section of the Lee Walk was dedicated by the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Deirdre Clune, on 1st February 2006. The bridge is a single span construction made of steel, stretching some 57 metres in length and having a 3 metre-wide footpath cantilevered from the bottom chord of the arch. Integral to the design is a circular viewing platform built into cantilever retaining walls, adjoining the north bank seat.

YUAN MING YUAN RESTAURANT 17 PRINCES STREET CORK

Cork City has many excellent restaurants but unfortunately many of them do not open until 5PM or 6PM and that does not suit. Most do not open on Mondays and others are closed on Tuesdays (maybe Monday and Tuesdays). The selection of Chinese restaurants is somewhat limited so by default I usually have lunch at Yuan Ming Yuan as I really like it (especially the staff).

MY ACCOMMODATION FOR A WEEK IN MAY 2023GABRIEL HOUSE SUMMERHILL NORTH

Every time I leave my hotel I take a photograph in order to check that my camera is working ... this ensures that I have installed a battery and a memory card.

A LARGE MURAL BY CONOR HARRINGTON AT BISHOP LUCEY PARK IN CORK CITY

This attention grabbing and larger than life painting by the Ardu Street Art Project depicts a man setting a table of fruit and veg in the style of an 18th century painting - when the English Market was built. There is a doll's house in the background.

Conor Harrington was born in 1980 in Cork, Ireland. He attended Limerick School of Art and Design and received in 2002 a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

DUTCH SHIP P840 NAMED HOLLAND AT HOGAN QUAY IN CORK

SUMMERHILL NORTH NEAR GABRIEL HOUSE WHERE I STAYEDMAY 2023

During my visit to Cork City I had a room at Gabriel House and on Friday (12 May) before checking out I decided to experiment with my Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max and photograph the immediate area.

CHURCHYARD LANE IN DOUGLAS CORKI USED A SONY FX30

This year, because of the cost of accommodation coupled with the lack of suitable accommodations, my plan to visit and photograph the cities and larger towns in Ireland had to be limited. Because I had booked two years in advance I have managed to spend four days in Cork city and I might visit again in August as I have already booked a room for a week in August.

I am going to provide much information about Douglas over the next few weeks so I will start with demographics.
