THE LEINSTER HOUSELOWER RATHMINES ROAD

THE LEINSTER HOUSEESTABLISHED 1843

I never noticed the plaque/inscription at the top of this building until today and the date is of interest as it indicates that the building existed before the Rathmines Township was created. Unfortunately, I cannot find any information specific to the building - are you in a position to help?

The Rathmines Township was created in 1847 by Act of Parliament. Under the Rathmines and Rathgar Improvement Act, 1862, the townlands of Rathgar and Sallymount (the latter comprising present-day Ranelagh) were added to the re-named Rathmines and Rathgar Township, which was further extended in 1866 to include townlands in Uppercross. Milltown was added to the township under the Milltown Extension Act, 1880.

Originally the township was governed by Commissioners, but under the Local Government (Ireland) Act of 1898 the Rathmines and Rathgar Urban District Council was established as the elected governing body.

The Rathmines Township was created as a sanitary area, but new functions were added with each of the above acts, so that its duties came to include responsibility for public lighting and water supply as well as drainage, which was provided jointly with the Pembroke Township. After 1898, the Urban District Council built a number of small housing schemes, under legislation for housing of the working classes.

ZEISS BATIS 85mm LENS

Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 Lens for Sony E Mount, Black

I HAVE THIS AND THE 135mm LENS

VERSATILE FULL-FRAME LENS: The powerful lens for the mirrorless full-frame system of Sony fulfills the highest requirements. Despite its compact design, the image meets the expectations of professional photographers. EXCELLENT RESOLUTION AND HIGH CONTRAST: Richly saturated and vivid colours are a must in the creation of lasting impressions. However, stray light within an optical system leads to a lightening of the image that is particularly noticeable in the shadows. This reduces image contrast, with the result that exposures lack contrast and appear faded. To avoid this, ZEISS combines various specially developed technologies to reduce the undesirable effects of stray light. ROBUST AND WEATHERPROOF METAL CONSTRUCTION: Thanks to features that are designed to keep out dust and spray water, the lens is perfectly suited for critical outdoor conditions. It is also designed for many years of intensive use. SMOOTH AND RELIABLE AUTOFOCUS: The design of the autofocus system requires an extremely accurate shifting of particular lens groups. The focusing system of ZEISS lenses is designed to ensure a robust and smooth-running autofocus mechanism with the best imaging performance.
