MOUNT ARGUS ROADBESIDE MOUNT JEROME CEMETERY

I lived on this road for a few years after returning from California in 1981. I was in the process of buying the house that I was renting but at the last minute the owner changed her mind. A year later she sold it for less than I had agreed to pay and I was more than a little bit disappointed when I discovered that it had been sold.

I was a bit surprised that there is a Chinese Restaurant (CoCo) in McGowan's but as it does not open until 5pm it is unlikely that I will ever have a meal there. As a matter of interest Palace Street is the shortest street in Dublin.

I took a short cut from Dublin Castle, Palace Street, to South Great George's and I also checked to see if there was any new examples of street art. There was one that I have already published photographs of but there was a new one relating to the protests in Iran.

CAPEL STREETPUBLIC MEETINGS HAVE BEEN ORGANISED BY BSLA

A public consultation on the pedestrianisation of Capel Street earlier this year found that the vast majority of respondents said their experience of the street has improved since it was closed to vehicle traffic and I was one of those people.

My understanding is that Dublin City Council has engaged the services of BSLA [Bernard Seymour Landscape Architects] to landscape the street and a public meetings have been arranged for next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Following a tender process, Bernard Seymour Landscape Architects have been invited to design an interim street improvement scheme to be installed before the summer. These designers are based on Mary’s Abbey, just off Capel Street and have extensive knowledge of the street.
The first stage in this process is to hold a workshop with councilors, local residents and local businesses to gain their views on what would work for the street. This is due to be held in the Capel Street area in mid-November and councilors, residents and businesses will be invited to participate. Following this initial workshop, a design will be advanced and further workshops will be held with the local community. This process will be driven by a collaborative approach.

A Shopfront Improvement Scheme is to be launched to encourage property owners and tenants to reinvigorate their business facades – painting, flower boxes, improved signage etc.

The junction of Ryders Row and Capel Street will undergo a greening enhancement in January 2023 to make this entrance into Capel Street more welcoming.

The City Council in partnership with the Dublin North Inner City Local Community Safety Partnership and DublinTown will be piloting a new pro social community warden scheme in the Capel Street and Wolfetone Park areas. The wardens will work with stakeholders including Gardai, City Council, Businesses and Residents on identifying areas for improvement, pop up events, advising shoppers/tourists on activities and places to see.

This year a small Christmas Tree has been installed on Capel Street towards the southern end of the street later this month.

SUZANNE WALKING BY JULIAN OPIELOCATED OUTSIDE THE HUGH LANE GALLERY

Julian Opie’s artwork is similar to pop-art. Portraits and animated walking figures, rendered with minimal detail in black line drawing, are hallmarks of the artist's style. His themes have been described as "engagement with art history, use of new technology, obsession with the human body" and "work with one idea across different media". Similarly, the national art critic of The Australian, Christopher Allen, laments Opie's "limited repertoire of tricks" and described his work as "slight and ultimately commercial, if not actually kitsch". When asked to describe his approach, Opie said "I often feel that trying to make something realistic is the one criterion I can feel fairly sure of. Another one I sometimes use is, would I like to have it in my room? And I occasionally use the idea, if God allowed you to show Him one [portrait] to judge you by, would this really be it?"

NOT THE SAFEST PLACE IN THE CITY AT NIGHTBUT AT LEAST THE FOOTPATHS ARE BEING REPAIRED

Very few of you will have ever visited Henrietta Place but there is a lot of interest nearby but the laneway/road is ugly and is the subject of ongoing anti-social behaviour including illegal dumping. But to be fair things have improved over the last four or five years because the area is now undergoing the process of 'gentrification' and this is likely to accelerate with the introduction of the Luas Cross-City tram service and the ongoing development of the nearby University Campus.

CELEBRATING BRAM STOKER AND DRACULAPAINT-A-BOX STREET ART ON NEW BRIDE STREET

Bram Stoker was born on 8 November 1847 at 15 Marino Crescent, Clontarf, on the north side of Dublin, Ireland. The park adjacent to the house is now known as Bram Stoker Park.

The annual Bram Stoker Festival in Dublin city celebrates the legacy of one of Ireland’s most beloved and iconic writers. The festival draws inspiration from Stoker, his life, his work, the Dublin of his time and celebrates the Gothic, the supernatural, the after-dark and the Victorian, and not forgetting! his most memorable creation, Count Dracula.

Abraham Stoker (8 November 1847 – 20 April 1912) was an Irish author who is celebrated for his 1897 Gothic horror novel Dracula. During his lifetime, he was better known as the personal assistant of actor Sir Henry Irving and business manager of the Lyceum Theatre, which Irving owned. In his early years, Stoker worked as a theatre critic for an Irish newspaper, and wrote stories as well as commentaries. He also enjoyed travelling, particularly to Cruden Bay where he set two of his novels. During another visit to the English coastal town of Whitby, Stoker drew inspiration for writing Dracula. He died on 20 April 1912 due to locomotor ataxia and was cremated in north London. Since his death, his magnum opus Dracula has become one of the most well-known works in English literature, and the novel has been adapted for numerous films, short stories, and plays.

THE GUINNESS STOREHOUSE GLASS ATRIUMMOST POPULAR TOURIST ATTRACTION IN DUBLIN

This is the first time that I have been able to properly photograph this structure even though the FX30 camera is a video-centrice device.

Guinness Storehouse is a tourist attraction at St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin, Ireland. Since opening in 2000, it has received over twenty million visitors.

The Storehouse covers seven floors surrounding a glass atrium shaped in the form of a pint of Guinness. The ground floor introduces the beer's four ingredients (water, barley, hops and yeast), and the brewery's founder, Arthur Guinness. Other floors feature the history of Guinness advertising and include an interactive exhibit on responsible drinking. The seventh floor houses the Gravity Bar with views of Dublin and where visitors may drink a pint of Guinness included in the price of admission.

The building in which the Storehouse is located was constructed in 1902 as a fermentation plant for the St. James's Gate Brewery (yeast is added to the brew). It was designed in the style of the Chicago School of Architecture and was the first multi-storey steel-framed building to be constructed in Ireland. The building was used continuously as the fermentation plant of the Brewery until its closure in 1988, when a new fermentation plant was completed near the River Liffey.

In 1997, it was decided to convert the building into the Guinness Storehouse, replacing the Guinness Hop Store as the Brewery's visitor centre. The redesign of the building was undertaken by the UK-based design firm Imagination in conjunction with the Dublin-based architects firm RKD, and the Storehouse opened to the public on 2 December 2000. In 2006-08 a new wing was developed, and Euro 2.5 million was invested in a live technology-driven multi-media installation demonstrating the modern brewing process for Guinness, which was designed by London-based museum design specialist, Event Communications.

In May 2011, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited the Storehouse as part of a state visit to Ireland.

This caught me by surprise and I cannot find any details online. I do not have any reason to believe that it is not a Marian Statue and I cannot understand why it is protected by such an ugly, and annoying, perspex case. Maybe it needs protection from the elements as it is in an exposed position but many others are.

GHOST BICYCLE ON NORTH WALL QUAY IN MEMORY OF THIAGO CORTES FROM BRAZIL

Please note that the usual rules apply: no dogs (except guide dogs), no ball games, picnics, sports, bicycles, tricycles, scooters, skateboards, roller skates, micro-scooters, balance bikes and other vehicles (except wheelchairs).t 4pm on the 22nd September 2021 a group of people cycled from the Spire on O’Connell Street to North Wall Quay to place a ghost bicycle where Thiago Cortes, the Brazilian delivery cyclist, was killed in a hit-and-run incident.

Ghost Bikes are small and somber memorials for bicyclists who are killed or hit on the street. A bicycle is painted all white and locked to a street sign near the crash site, accompanied by a small plaque. They serve as reminders of the tragedy that took place on an otherwise anonymous street corner, and as quiet statements in support of cyclists' right to safe travel.
The first ghost bikes were created in St. Louis, Missouri in 2003. Currently there are over 630 ghost bikes that have since appeared in over 210 locations throughout the world.

Note: A teenage boy who struck and killed a Deliveroo cyclist after breaking a red light while driving above the speed limit has been remanded in juvenile detention for two years. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that the car was travelling at an estimated 79km/h on North Wall Quay at the time of impact. The speed limit was 50km/h.
