HANOVER QUAY - GRAND CANAL DOCKS WOMEN'S CHRISTMAS OR LITTLE CHRISTMAS

Today I visited the docklands area in Dublin and had lunch at a new restaurant to celebrate Little Christmas.

In Ireland the 6th January is known as “Nollaig na mBan" or Women's Christmas. When I was young the men had to do all the cooking and washing up in my home in order to give the women a day off and that was considered to be progressive. Back then men never lifted a finger to help their wife, daughters or sisters with the housework. I remember one Christmas when our next door neighbour was in hospital at Christmas and her husband knocked on our door asking for help as he did not know how to boil water or make a cup of tea and of course he was invited to join us for Christmas dinner.
