ABOUT KILKENNY FIRE STATION ON GAOL ROAD
Kilkenny City Fire Station
The Kilkenny City Fire Station is located on Gaol Road in Kilkenny City, Ireland. The current building was completed in 1977, but the site has a longer history as a fire station.
History:
- Pre-1977: The Kilkenny Fire Service has existed since the 19th century, and before the current station was built, the station was housed in the original Station Officer's house, which has since been converted into offices. Over the decades, several extensions were added to accommodate the growing service.
- 1977: The current fire station building was completed, providing a more modern and spacious facility for the fire service.
- 1997: Further extensions were completed, adding office space, lecture facilities, and storage areas to the station.
Location:
The location of the Kilkenny City Fire Station on Gaol Road is strategic, as it allows for quick access to the city center and surrounding areas. It is also located near the former site of Kilkenny Jail, which has since been repurposed as a parking area for motorhomes.
Present Day:
The Kilkenny Fire and Rescue Service operates from this station, providing fire prevention, fire suppression, and emergency response services to the community. They have a fleet of modern fire appliances and equipment to handle various types of incidents.
Future:
A new, state-of-the-art fire station has been proposed for Kilkenny City, with a site secured at the Kilkenny Business and Retail Park on the Waterford Road. This new facility will provide the Kilkenny Fire and Rescue Service with even better capabilities to serve the community.
