A VISIT TO ST MARY'S CATHEDRAL IN KILKENNY

St. Mary’s Cathedral in Kilkenny, Ireland, is a magnificent example of Gothic Revival architecture.

Here are some key details:

Design and Construction: The cathedral was designed by William Deane Butler and consecrated in 1857. It was built using hand-cut Kilkenny Limestone and stands 186 feet tall. Its cruciform design is reminiscent of Norman architecture, and it took six years to complete.

Location: Situated on James’s Street, St. Mary’s Cathedral is the highest point in Kilkenny City. Its steeple houses a bell made by John Murphy, a Dublin foundry.

Interior: Inside, you’ll find notable features such as a sculpture of the Madonna by Giovanni Maria Benzoni (1809-1873).
