THE POND AT THE BOTANIC GARDENS
I visited in the middle of storm and spent most of the time sheltering from heavy rain and me camera became very wet and many of my images were blurred which you will, no doubt, notice.
Nestled within the vibrant landscape of the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin lies a charming pond. Its calm waters reflect the surrounding foliage, creating a tranquil scene in this urban oasis. The pond is a popular spot for visitors seeking a moment of serenity, and provides a haven for a variety of wildlife. Today there were very few visitors but there were a few herons.
Turtles: Yes! The pond is still home to several turtles, a source of delight for visitors. You might see them basking in the sun on logs or rocks, or gracefully gliding through the water. It's thought that these are likely pets released into the pond. It is over a year since I last saw the turtles.
Water Source: The Botanic Gardens staff manage the pond's water in multiple ways. Some of its water may come from rainfall, while the gardens may also supplement the pond via the Tolka River which flows nearby.
The area surrounding the pond is equally inviting. Strolling along its banks, you'll encounter vibrant flower beds, lush greenery, and perhaps even a curious duck or two. There's also a fascinating sculpture nearby by Charles Jencks, celebrating the discovery of DNA.
