Using Bing Image Creator to Generate Amazing AI Artwork: In March Microsoft announced that they were bringing Bing Image Creator, new AI-powered visual Stories and updated Knowledge Cards to the new Bing and Edge preview. Powered by an advanced version of the DALL∙E model from their partners at OpenAI, Bing Image Creator allows you to create an image simply by using your own words to describe the picture you want to see. Now you can generate both written and visual content in one place, from within chat.

In February Microsoft launched an all new, AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge browser, available in preview now at Bing.com, to deliver better search, more complete answers, a new chat experience and the ability to generate content.

Microsoft brought together search, browsing and chat into one unified experience you can invoke from anywhere on the web, delivering:

Better search. The new Bing gives you an improved version of the familiar search experience, providing more relevant results for simple things like sports scores, stock prices and weather, along with a new sidebar that shows more comprehensive answers if you want them.

Complete answers. Bing reviews results from across the web to find and summarise the answer you’re looking for. For example, you can get detailed instructions for how to substitute eggs for another ingredient in a cake you are baking right in that moment, without scrolling through multiple results.

A new chat experience. For more complex searches – such as for planning a detailed trip itinerary or researching what TV to buy – the new Bing offers new, interactive chat. The chat experience empowers you to refine your search until you get the complete answer you are looking for by asking for more details, clarity and ideas – with links available so you can immediately act on your decisions.

A creative spark. There are times when you need more than an answer – you need inspiration. The new Bing can generate the content to help you. It can help you write an email, create a 5-day itinerary for a dream vacation to Hawaii, with links to book your travel and accommodations, prep for a job interview or create a quiz for trivia night. The new Bing also cites all its sources, so you’re able to see links to the web content it references.

New Microsoft Edge experience. The Edge browser with new AI capabilities and a new look, they have added two new functionalities: Chat and compose. With the Edge Sidebar, you can ask for a summary of a lengthy financial report to get the key takeaways – and then use the chat function to ask for a comparison to a competing company’s financials and automatically put it in a table. You can also ask Edge to help you compose content, such as a LinkedIn post, by giving it a few prompts to get you started. After that, you can ask it to help you update the tone, format and length of the post. Edge can understand the web page you’re on and adapts accordingly.

FACES PROVED TO BE A PROBLEM

Playground AI lets you create any image you like by simply writing out what you want and the more detail you provide as text input the better the results will be.

It employs three different AI models … Stable Diffusion 1.5, Stable Diffusion 2.1 and Dall-e 2.

SHAMROCK CAUSES CONFUSION

The Leprechaun is, without doubt, the most famous Irish fairy. They are Earth Fairies that specialise in shoemaking. Leprechauns are known for being extremely small, wearing green clothes and hiding treasure. Despite their popularity, the first accounts of Leprechauns don’t appear in English literature until the early 17th century. According to W. B. Yeats in his 1888 book Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry, leprechauns are small, withered old men. The popular image of these little men also suggests they are ill-tempered and mischievous.

I am currently experimenting with Firefly [Adobe], Bing [Microsoft], Playground AI, DALL-E and a few other options that I will discuss at a later date.

Several programs use text-to-image models to generate a variety of images based on various text prompts. They include OpenAI’s DALL-E, which released a series of images in January 2021, Google Brain’s Imagen and Parti which was announced in May 2022, Microsoft’s NUWA-Infinity, and Dream by Wombo. The input can also include images and keywords and configurable parameters, such as artistic style, which is often used via keyphrases like “in the style of [name of an artist]” in the prompt and/or selection of a broad aesthetic/art style.

On 22 August 2022, Stable Diffusion was released, making the technology much more accessible and free to use on personal hardware as well as extendable by third-parties (i.e. other software projects). This enabled the development of further applications and extensions, such as plugins for Krita, Photoshop, Blender, and GIMP. The Automatic1111 Stable Diffusion UI is a popular web-based open source user interface for using the tool on one’s own computer including, continuously integrated, new features (such as “Inpainting” or “Textual Inversion”). The web interface by Stability.ai that allows running the software without any new installation is called DreamStudio.

There are many other AI art generation programs including simple consumer-facing mobile apps and Jupyter notebooks that require powerful GPUs to run effectively.
