FORT ELIZABETH - STAR SHAPED FORT
The story of Elizabeth Fort begins in 1601, in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Kinsale. Constructed under the orders of Sir George Carew, President of Munster, the fort was named in honour of Queen Elizabeth I. Its initial iteration was a more rudimentary structure of earth, stone, and timber, strategically placed on high ground to defend the city.
