AN ELEVATED VIEW OF COBH CAPTURED WITH A LEICA Q3 [SEPTEMBER 2025]
Attractions and Landmarks
Today, Cobh is a vibrant tourist destination and a popular port for cruise liners, its streetscape still retaining much of its Victorian and Edwardian character.
St. Colman's Cathedral: Dominating the town's skyline, this magnificent neo-Gothic cathedral took 47 years to build (1868-1915). It features an impressive organ with 2,468 pipes and a carillon of 49 bells, the largest in the British Isles.
The Deck of Cards: This is a famous row of colourful, terraced houses built on a steep hill. Their unique appearance against the backdrop of the cathedral makes for one of Ireland's most iconic photo opportunities.
Spike Island: A short ferry trip from Cobh, Spike Island has a varied history as a 7th-century monastery, a fortress, and most notably, a prison, earning it the nickname "Ireland's Alcatraz."
Annie Moore Statue: Outside the Cobh Heritage Centre stands a statue of Annie Moore and her brothers. She was the first immigrant to be processed at the newly opened Ellis Island in New York in 1892.
