M HUGHES - I THOUGH THAT IT WAS MAC HUGHES

It is disappointing that pubs and restaurants had to close again here in Dublin because of a second, but localised, lockdown.

Late last week restaurants were instructed to close if the did not have outdoor facilities but they could operate delivery and take-away services.

During the last lockdown I depended on delivery services but this time some of the restaurants I had used back then decided to fully close for the three weeks. One restaurant contacted me this morning to inform me that they have decided to fully close for the three weeks as that had not received a single order other than mine since Saturday.

I visited the Temple Bar today and there was little or no activity and a few restaurants had one or two tables outside with little hope of attracting business but other parts of the city was very busy for example BoCo on Bolton street is doing very well. The restaurants along the Millennium Walkway and Bloom Lane were very busy because they have excellent outdoor areas.

There is no doubting the fact that many restaurants and pubs will never reopen.
