The long promised refurbishment of Francis Street in The Liberties was due to begin in July 2021 but, I assume because of Covid-19 restrictions, progress appears to be rather slow.
I never noticed the plaque/inscription at the top of this building until today and the date is of interest as it indicates that the building existed before the Rathmines Township was created. Unfortunately, I cannot find any information specific to the building - are you in a position to help?
In the 18th century, a tavern on the street, the Bull's Head, was one of the most popular and well-known establishments in Dublin, and was in demand for anniversary and celebratory dinners by the various city guilds and bodies. It also provided accommodation for assemblies of the Grand Lodge of Irish Freemasons. The Bull's Head Musical Society was also well known and undertook the building of a Music Hall which was formally opened in 1741.
