MERRION STRAND IS NOW A BADLY POLLUTED BEACH

This 0.7 kilometre long beach is at the railway crossing known as Merrion Gates and it is known as Merrion Strand and my understanding is that it is unsuitable for swimming. FITZWILLIAM QUAY - ALONG THE RIVER DODDER FROM BATH AVENUE BRIDGE TO RINGSEND BRIDGE

The name Clongriffin is a modern invention, a concatenation of "clon", the anglicisation of cluain (the Irish language word for meadow), and griffin. A griffin, griffon, or gryphon (the Irish of which is ghrífín) is a mythical beast and may be an element in the name of the adjacent district, Balgriffin.
