LOUGH ATALIA ROAD

A WALK ALONG LOUGH ATALIA ROAD GALWAY CITY

Even though Galway is a very small city I discover [or rediscover] something new every time I visit. Back in 2015 I came across a Holy Well on Lough Atalia Road but never really noticed Forthhill Cemetery. This year [July 2019] I was researching Queen Street and the cemetery was mentioned i one historic description that I found online and I was surprised by the fact that I had not visited it and then today I discovered that I had walked past the entrance to the cemetery in August 2015 after passing along Lough Atalia Road. Even more annoying is that when the train [on my return journey to Dublin] was stopped for about ten minutes after crossing the bridge I noticed a pedestrian path beside the track connecting the Bus Station to Mellows Park.

Lough Atalia is best described as a narrow finger-like inlet in Galway Bay. The entrance is in the heart of the City docks. The lough is adjacent to both Galway Railway Station and the Galway-Dublin Road, with unrestricted access to most of the site.
