Last year Amazon announced plans to create up to 1,000 new employment opportunities in Ireland in a move that will bring their total headcount in the country to about 5,000. The company is also due to open a new 15,800sq m (170,000sq ft) campus at Charlemont Square in 2022.
Earlier this year Amazon announced that it would establish its first fulfillment warehouse in Baldonnell to service the island of Ireland and some parts of the EU. They also plan to open smaller logistics centres to support their own van delivery operations.
Charlemont Square has been designed to become the mixed use focal point of the area. There is to be a new public realm with pedestrianised landscaping, designed by Cameo. The central attraction of the public realm will be a new central square hosting cultural events and recreational uses. The retail space at street level will incorporate convenience retail, food and beverage uses, and an art studio supplementing the residential apartments and office accommodation.

The development is already home to McCauley Health and Beauty and Atelier Maser, a studio/gallery space home to internationally renowned Irish artist Maser.
A further 200 apartments will delivered across three blocks, on top of 79 units already delivered on site. The apartments will consist of a unique collection of luxury one, two and three bedroom units. The Locks will bring canalside living to Charlemont, one of Dublin's most vibrant, creative and artistic communities.
