SCULPTURE IN CONTEXT 2022

This was really difficult to photograph especially using an iPhone so I used different filters to see what detail could be extracted. I will return next week and make another attempt to photograph this.

Imní is a word unknown to me but I have forgotten much of my Irish: A conflation of Middle Irish imṡním‎ (“(great) anxiety, grief”), from im- + sním, and Old Irish imned‎ (“sorrow, tribulation”).

Unfortunately I know nothing about this artist other than the fact that I always look forward to seeing his work on display in the Botanic Gardens every September.

SCULPTURE IN CONTEXT 1 SEPTEMBER 2022

Incy wincy spider climbed up the waterspout,
Down came the rain and washed the spider out,
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
So Incy wincy spider climbed up the spout again.

“Itsy Bitsy Spider” (also known as “Incy Wincy Spider” in Australia and Great Britain, and several other similar-sounding names) is a popular nursery rhyme and fingerplay that describes the adventures of a spider as it ascends, descends, and reascends the downspout or “waterspout” of a gutter system (or, alternatively, the spout of a teapot or open-air reservoir). It is usually accompanied by a sequence of gestures that mimic the words of the song.

CELTIC PEACE DOVE BY NIGEL CONNELL BASS

CANON 1Ds MKIII AND CANON 5D MKIII

The name is new to me. Nigel Connell Bass is a British artist living in West Cork, Ireland and self-taught in a multitude of disciplines, Nigel is well known for his sculpture work in new and recycled metals, predominantly life-size depictions of birds and animals.

The exhibition began on the first day of September but I visited at the end of August and I used a Canon iDsMKIII camera coupled with a fully manual Voigtlander 40mm pancake lens and I liked the resulting images. The next day when I visited I had had a, newly purchased, Canon 5DIII fitted with the same Voigtlander and the resulting images were unusable because of focusing problems.

On the first of September I used the 5D fitted with a Sigma F4 24-105mm lens. As a result I have decided that using fully manual lenses with the 5D is a waste of time but the same lenses work very well with the 15 year old Canon 1DS MkIII [I do not know why]. The images from the second session are GEO tagged.
