THE HISTORY OF THE TOWER

ALL THAT I KNOW ABOUT THE ROUND TOWER

Kildare town boasts a magnificent Round Tower, one of Ireland's finest surviving examples. It's located within the grounds of St. Brigid's Cathedral and is estimated to have been built in the 12th century. While this is relatively late for a Round Tower, it's possible that the current structure replaced an earlier one.

The Round Tower is an impressive 33 metres tall and offers stunning views of Kildare town and the surrounding countryside to those who brave the climb up its interior ladders. The tower is open to visitors during the summer months.
