In accordance with government guidelines, the Dublin and London galleries are closed until further notice
Mother’s Tankstation is a project in contemporary visual art in Dublin. The gallery (the tank), a renovated factory, is situated (the station) on Watling Street adjacent to the vast Guinness Complex. I believe that the building may have been The Central Hide And Skin Company which was active as a business until the mid 1980s. If you check Google maps you will notice an old sign on the building that read as follows: The Central Hide & Skinn Co Ltd ... note that skin was spelled as Skinn.
I have avoided this street since the beginning of the Covid-19 related restrictions as I had problems with a gang of youths on bicycles as one of them tried to grab my camera while I was distracted by others and as a result I lost some SD cards attached to the camera camera strap.
The main item of interest on Watling Street was once the largest smock windmill in Europe and was built as part of the Roe whiskey distillery in 1757. Although it has lost its sails, it remains an iconic reminder of the industrial heritage of the area, particularly its extensive associations with the distilling and brewing industries.
The Roe distillery was one of the predominant distillers in Dublin and merged with Jameson and the Dublin Whiskey Distillery to form the Dublin Distillers Company in 1889. A copper cupola with a figure of Saint Patrick was added to the tower in the late nineteenth century.
