BALLAST HOUSE - I HAD NOT NOTICED THIS BRONZE LAMP BY LAMBSTONGUE BEFORE
Lambstongue fabricated a bronze entrance for the Ballast House which includes two bronze lamps. Unfortunately, because of an obstruction I could only photograph one of them. I will publish photographs of the building later this month.
The Ballast Office building which once housed the Dublin Port and Docks Board was demolished in 1979 by the Royal Liver Friendly Society who had acquired the building. By 1981 the historic building had been rebuilt while preserving its 1866 façade, and extensively modernised in 2018. Union Investment acquired Ballast House in 2019.
There was a suggestion that Dublin “time ball”, a giant bronze timepiece visible across the city until 1920 would be reinstalled but, to date, that has not happened.
