THE NORTH BEACH IN GREYSTONES
Greystones is a desirable place to live and enjoyed my visit today and I had a wonderful lunch even though it involved outdoor dining which I am not keen on for a variety of reasons.
When I lived in Donegal the family had a holiday home on Inch Island and in front of the house there was a beautiful sandy beach and later we had a holiday home near Whitegate refinery in County Cork and of course the were many beautiful sandy beaches nearby. When I first visited the beaches in Greystones I was really surprised by how ugly and stoney the were compared to what I was used to.
Greystones is named after a half-mile or one-kilometre stretch of grey stones between two beaches on the seafront. The harbour area and Greystones railway station are at the northern and southern ends respectively. The North Beach, which begins at the harbour, is a stony beach, and some of its length is overlooked by the southern cliffs of Bray Head, which are subject to erosion. The South Beach is a broad sandy beach about one kilometre long. It is a Blue Flag beach and receives many visitors and tourists, mainly in the summer.
