AMAZING DOOR AT 47 MIDDLE ABBEY STREET - IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME TO DISCOVER THE BACKGROUND STORY

Gerard Dowling [Zorro of the Liffey] who lived here died in July 2019.

Gerard was an artist, famous for squatting for twenty years in a €2m Georgian townhouse on Middle Abbey Street in Dublin City centre.

In 2012 he reached an agreement with dublin city Council and vacated his his almost derelict home and studio. Eight years later 47 Middle Abbey Street remains locked and even in worse condition than it was in back in 2012. However, it may be possible that the building is being renovated at present.
