During 1681 and 1682 Sir Humphrey Jarvis was the Mayor of Dublin and while in office the City markets were moved from south of the river to the north side. As a result many complaints were made against him and at the time it was alleged that he had forcibly driven traders from the old City markets to his new grounds.
There is a building on Upper Rathmines Road which was opened as a Protestant And Orange Hall in November 1890
