I VISITED O'BRIEN'S PARK A NUMBER OF TIMES DURING MY VISIT TO LIMERICK

O'Briens Park is a well-regarded public park located on Clare Street in Limerick City, often referred to as Clare Street Park. It serves as a key green space and recreational hub for the local community, blending traditional park features with significant modern upgrades.

🌳 O'Briens Park: The park is particularly notable for its recent developments under the "Active Cities" initiative, which have transformed it into a modern hub for sports and family activities.

Key Features:

Inclusive Playground: In late 2023, the park unveiled a majorly upgraded inclusive playground. This area is designed for children of all abilities and features specialized equipment, including a wheelchair-accessible trampoline and roundabout, sensory play panels, and a variety of swings and climbing structures.

Sports Facilities: O'Briens Park is a premier location for free public sports. It features:

Limerick City's only full-size public outdoor basketball court.

An outdoor volleyball area.

Teqball and table tennis tables.

"BoxUp" Equipment Lockers: A standout feature is the "BoxUp" system. This is a free, app-operated equipment locker that allows visitors to borrow sports equipment (like basketballs, volleyballs, and table tennis gear) for up to three hours. Users must register on the app with a photo ID to access the lockers.

General Amenities: Beyond the new facilities, the park retains its traditional charm with walking paths, open green lawns, ample seating, and a historic cast-iron drinking fountain (the Tait drinking fountain).

Overall, O'Briens Park is a vital community asset that successfully combines relaxation and active recreation, making it highly popular with families, children, and anyone looking to play sports.
