FAMINE MEMORIAL IN KILKENNY 11/06/2025
In 2005, an archaeological excavation in Kilkenny City uncovered the remains of 1,000 individuals who were inmates of the former Kilkenny workhouse. A poignant discovery revealed that over half of these individuals were under 18 years old. These remains were respectfully re-interred in 2010 at the Kilkenny Famine Memorial Garden on Hebron Road, serving as a lasting tribute to those who perished.
