FOR MANY YEARS I HAVE USED JPEGminiPro BUT I DID NOT UPGRADE TO VERSION 3

The most recent version is 3.5.3.50941 but I use Version 2.2.9 build 20571. I have downloaded trial copies of Version 3 and could not see any real improvement and could not justify paying an annual subscription that was in fact expensive compared to what I paid for the original. I am in the process of switching to Squash 3 by Realmac [$13.99 per year] as it produces WebP files and because it is a lot less expensive.

JPEGminiPro is a software application that reduces the file size of JPEG photos by up to 5X while preserving the resolution and quality of the original photos. It is a popular tool among photographers, web designers, and anyone who wants to save space on their computer or mobile device.

Here are some of the pros and cons of JPEGminiPro:

Pros:

Effectively reduces file size: JPEGminiPro is very effective at reducing file size without sacrificing image quality. In most cases, you won't be able to tell the difference between a compressed JPEGmini photo and the original.
Easy to use: JPEGminiPro is very easy to use. Just drag and drop your photos into the application, and it will automatically compress them. You can also batch process multiple photos at once.
Available for both Mac and Windows: JPEGminiPro is available for both Mac and Windows, so you can use it on any computer.

Cons:

Not as powerful as some other image compression tools: There are other image compression tools that can reduce file size even further than JPEGminiPro. However, these tools often produce more noticeable artifacts in the compressed images.
Not free: JPEGminiPro is not free.

Overall, JPEGminiPro is a great tool for reducing the file size of JPEG photos without sacrificing image quality. It is easy to use and available for both Mac and Windows. If you are looking for a way to save space on your computer or mobile device, JPEGminiPro is a great option.

Here are some additional details about JPEGminiPro:

The software uses a proprietary algorithm to reduce file size while preserving image quality.
The software supports batch processing, so you can compress multiple photos at once.
The software is available for both Mac and Windows.

I could not determine the price as they have changed to an annual subscription:

"Starting with the launch of JPEGmini Pro 3 on October 2020, the licensing model changes. The most important part of this change is that we will now require a yearly fee for updates. Once you buy JPEGmini that version is yours to keep forever, but in order to upgrade to the newest version, we ask for an additional yearly fee. If you are an existing user of JPEGmini, you should receive a popup inside the app allowing you to upgrade with a special discount of 30%. If you don't see the banner inside the app, please email our support - [email protected], with the subject: "Upgrade pricing for JPEGmini Pro 3", stating what was the email that was used to purchase JPEGmini and attach a proof of purchase (this could be a screenshot, or an email with an invoice).

DO PEOPLE IN IRELAND CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN ACTUALLY IT IS MOST LIKELY THAT THE FESTIVAL ORIGINATED IN IRELAND

I receive many requests for information and, excluding questions relating to Leprechauns , the most common question that I receive is "do people in Ireland have Halloween?". I received such a question yesterday so I decided to ask Google's BARD AI. Here is the answer that I received:

Yes, people in Ireland celebrate Halloween. In fact, Halloween is thought to have originated in Ireland as the Celtic festival of Samhain. The Celts believed that on the eve of Samhain, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead was weakened, allowing spirits to pass between them. To ward off these spirits, the Celts would light bonfires, wear costumes, and tell stories of the dead

TWISTED AND DISTORTED TREES AT ST ANNE'S PARK AS THEY WERE BACK IN APRIL 2016

The Naniken River flows through the park and its banks are dominated by large and mature beech (Fagus sylvatica). Adjacent woodlands contain Holm oak, Monterey cypress, yew, and horse chestnut, as well as self-seeded trees, including wych elm (Ulmus glabra), ash trees and sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus).

THE YEW CIRCLEST ANNE'S PARK IN RAHENY PHOTOGRAPHED 16 APRIL 2016

The Yew Circle at St Anne's Park in Dublin was created in the 1830s by Benjamin Lee Guinness, a member of the famous brewing family. The circle is made up of a circular yew hedge that was originally planted with five alcoves, each of which contained an Italian statue representing one of the five continents. In the centre of the circle was a fountain, which is now no longer extant.

DID SOMEONE GET A NEW CHAINSAWTREE STUMPS PHOTOGRAPHED 16 APRIL 2016

When I visited in April 2016 the one thing that I noticed was that many trees had been cut down and in many cases the wood was red or there was red sawdust on the ground. I assume that trees had to be removed because of various tree diseases such as Beech Dieback.

In recent years, there have been concerns about the health of some of the trees in St. Anne's Park. This is due to a number of factors, including climate change, pests, and diseases. However, the park's management is working to address these issues, and they are confident that the trees in St. Anne's Park will continue to thrive for many years to come.

THE OLDEST FOLLY IN ST ANNE'S PARKTHE ANNIE LEE BRIDGE PHOTOGRAPHED 16 APRIL 2016

Annie Lee Bridge is a folly in St Anne's Park, Dublin, Ireland. It was built in 1839 by Benjamin Lee Guinness to commemorate the birth of his daughter, Anne Lee Guinness. The bridge is a sham ruin in the form of a bridge and tower, and it is located near the entrance to the park. It is one of twelve follies in the park, all of which were built by the Guinness family.

TREE OF LIFE BY TOMMY CRAGGS TREE CARVING AT WATERMILL ROAD IN RAHENY

The Coombe is a historic street in the south inner city of Dublin. It was originally a hollow or valley where a tributary of the River Poddle, the Coombe Stream or Commons Water, ran. The name is sometimes used for the broader area around, in which the Poddle and its related watercourses featured strongly.

THE ROMAN TEMPLEPHOTOGRAPHED 16 APRIL 2016

The Roman Temple (Herculanean House) is situated near what was originally the northwestern corner of the walled garden near the house. It was a perfect replica in classical Roman style, with a courtyard and interior paved with tiles copied from a design found during the excavations of the original Herculaneum. During recent restoration work these original courtyard mosaic tiles were unexpectedly unearthed and found to be remarkably intact and in very good condition. Works to the dome structure involved reinstating the stone parapet, reinstating the marble tiles and installing new stainless steel railings to the six bays. Works to the courtyard involved repointing and consolidating the surrounding brickwork and installing a new column at the entrance to match the existing.

DESIGNED BY HERBERT SIMMSSHELETRS ON THE BULL WALL

The bathing shelters were designed by Herbert Simms in 1934. They are simple, elegant structures made of concrete. The shelters are painted a pale golden yellow, which contrasts with the blue of the sea. The shelters provide a place for swimmers to change and to get out of the water. They also offer some protection from the wind and the sun.

IT WAS RAINING IN DUBLINBUT THE REST OF THE WORLD WAS SUFFERING FROM HEATWAVES

There is no heatwave in Ireland at the moment because of the following reasons:

The current weather pattern is dominated by a low-pressure system to the north of Ireland, which is bringing in cooler air from the Atlantic.
The marine heatwave that was affecting Ireland in June has subsided, and sea surface temperatures are now returning to normal.
The average temperature for July in Ireland is around 15°C, so even if there was no marine heatwave, it is unlikely that we would see a heatwave in July.
However, Met Éireann has forecast that there is a likelihood of above average temperatures for Ireland over the summer season, so it is possible that we could see a heatwave later in the summer.

BROWN STREET SOUTHCONNECTING DONORE AVENUE TO ORMOND STREET AND OSCAR SQUARE - WEAVER'S SQUARE

The street is named after the Brown family, who were prominent landowners in the area in the 18th century. The street was originally known as Brown's Street, but it was renamed South Brown Street in the 19th century to distinguish it from other streets with the same name.

FISHAMBLE STREET AND THE SURROUNDING AREA

Fishamble Street is one of the oldest streets in Dublin, dating back to the 10th century. It was originally named Vicus Piscariorum, or Fish Street, after the fish shambles or stalls that once lined it. The street was also known as the official fish market for Dublin until the end of the 17th century when the city markets were moved to the north bank of the Liffey.

I live across the street from Bolton Street College - or to be more accurate my front door is across the street from the building as my address is Henrietta Place rather than Bolton Street.

THE TENTERS PUB WAS DERELICTIT IS TENTERHOOKS RATHER THAN TENDER HOOKS

When I was young I thought that the expression was "on tender hooks" but it is "on tenterhooks". The word "tenters" comes from the Middle English word "teyntur," which is ultimately derived from the Latin word "tentorium," meaning "tent." A tenter is a frame or endless track with hooks or clips along two sides that is used for drying and stretching cloth. The word "tenters" can also refer to the people who operate tenters, or to the area where tenters are located.

STATUE OF SAINT KILIANON ROEBUCK ROAD

This modern statue is located at St Kilian's German School on Roebuck Road in Clonskeagh.

I am still experimenting with Google Bard and used it to research St Killian but some of the information was somewhat doubtful. For example I could not confirm that the Town Of Killarney [referred to as a city by Bard] is named after St Killian. The Irish for Killarney is Cill Airne meaning the "Church Of Sloes".

CLONSKEAGH MOSQUE ROEBUCK ROAD

The Clonskeagh Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre (ICCI) is a major Islamic centre in Dublin, Ireland. It was built in 1996 with funding from Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Governor of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry in the United Arab Emirates.

MEATH ROAD IN BRAY COUNTY WICKLOWACCORDING TO GOOGLE BARD

Meath Road is a relatively new road, having been built in the 19th century. However, the area around Meath Road has been inhabited for much longer. In the 17th century, the land around Meath Road was owned by the Earl of Meath, and was used for farming. In the 18th century, the area began to develop as a seaside resort, and Meath Road became one of the main thoroughfares in the town.

DUBLINBIKES DOCKING STATION 97 ACCORDING TO GOOGLE BARD

I asked Google Bard to describe Dublinbikes Docking Station at Kinmainham Gaol and here is what I got: Dublinbikes Docking Station 97 is located at Kilmainham Gaol, a former prison in Kilmainham, Dublin, Ireland. The station is located at the corner of Inchicore Road and Kilmainham Lane, just a short walk from the entrance to the gaol.

ONCE KNOWN AS THE ROAD OF TEN HOUSESA SECTION OF PUTLAND ROAD IN BRAY COUNTY WICKLOW

Putland Road was laid out as a Famine Relief Scheme. It was known as "The Road of Ten Houses" because that was the number of houses at Putland Villas. A few years later the road took on the name of the Putland family, the local landlords who lived in Bray Head House. I think that the ten houses are at Sydenham Villas.

SO YOU CAN SEE LIBERTY HALL FROM HERE I DO NOT LIKE THIS BUILDING

The present building, which has sixteen storeys, was constructed between 1961 and 1965. It was originally fitted with windows of non-reflective glass, but after they were damaged by a UVF car bomb on 1 December 1972 they were replaced with windows of reflective glass. The viewing platform, which had only recently been opened, was also closed after the car bomb.

BRAY SEAFRONT AND BRAY HEADA HOLIDAY RESORT IN COUNTY WICKLOW

Bray's pubs and restaurants include the first Porterhouse bar, who brew their own ales, stouts and beers. In 2010, the Lonely Planet Guide ranked the Harbour Bar in Bray the Best Bar in the World and the Best off the Beaten Track Bar in the world. The O'Toole family owned the bar for three generations, but it was bought by the Duggan family in 2013. The Duggans also operate two seafront premises, Katie Gallagher's and the Martello, both include restaurants on site.

MY WALK ALONG A SECTION OF DUNDRUM ROAD WINDY ARBOUR VILLAGE AND NEARBY

I pass through Wind Arbour Village twice every Tuesday and Saturday. Windy Arbour is surrounded by several housing estates, including Columbanus. At the centre of Windy Arbour is the smaller and much older townland of Farranboley, which appears on maps dating from the 18th century.

The name of the area was originally Irish Na Glasáin, "the green land"; this was anglicised as 'Glassons'. The name Windy Harbour or Sandy Arbour was later applied, referring to a landing-point on the River Slang. A starch mill was formerly located there. "Arbour" once had the meaning “grass plot, lawn, garden”; it is possible that the name was intended as a direct translation of glasáin.

The Irish National War Memorial Gardens is an Irish war memorial in Islandbridge, Dublin, dedicated "to the memory of the 49,400 Irish soldiers who gave their lives in the Great War, 1914–1918", out of over 300,000 Irishmen who served in all armies.

ALFAMA PORTUGUESE RESTAURANT AT WINDY ARBOUR

I never noticed this small restaurant before last Saturday [8 July 2023]. I was in a hurry so I did not have time to have a look at the menu but I will visit it within the next few weeks. I could be wrong but it is at an entrance to Glasson linear park which I have yet to explore in detail.

ANOTHER FIRE ON FRANCIS STREET VARIETY JONES RESTAURANT BADLY DAMAGED BY FIRE

Last week I visited Francis Street and photographed "Drop Dead Twice" a venue that is still closed a year after a serious fire. Unfortunately on the following day Michelin star restaurant Variety Jones, also on Francis Street, was seriously damaged following a fire at the premises. My understanding is that the restaurant had just moved from 78 Thomas Street to 79 Thomas Street at the corner of Francis Street.

MAYO MAN DIES AFTER HORSE RIDING ACCIDENT IN INDIAFINDLATER FAMILY VAULT

In 1823 Alex. Findlater & Co. began trading in Dublin. The company was founded by Alexander Findlater, a hard working spirit merchant. He set up his business on Burgh Quay opposite the Custom House. From humble beginnings, the business grew rapidly and extensively not just in Dublin but into the United Kingdom also, expanding into other fields; trading in Wines, Teas, Coffees and Groceries.

CORK STREETIS NOW CHANGING AT A RAPID PACE

The street was once a centre of fine wool and silk hand-loom weaving. The woollen industry was killed off around 1700 by the English government, who wanted to keep the wool monopoly in England, although a minor revival was started around 1775. Despite problems, silk spinning and the manufacture of poplin, supported by the Royal Dublin Society, continued into the 19th century.

THE FIRE STATION AT DOLPHINS BARN PARNELL ROAD DRIMNAGH

"Dolphin's Barn" is an area on the southwest edge of inner city Dublin, named for the Dolphyn family who had a barn there when it was not a part of the city.

THIS IS LOCKS RESTAURANTWAS ONCE A SWEET SHOP

I first noticed this in June but it was raining so I did not investigate I had assumed that it was a Dolls Hospital or a Toy Shop. I also considered the possibility that it could be some scheme to promote the new Barbie Film. Anyway, I now know that it is a replacement for the recently closed Anti Social cocktail bar.

PORTOBELLO ROAD AT IT BEST LEADS TO PORTOBELLO HARBOUR

Portobello Harbour was opened in 1801, becoming an important terminus for barges travelling along the Grand Canal. The harbour was originally larger in size and also served as a water reservoir until 1863. Portobello House, originally the Grand Canal Hotel, opened in 1807. The building was later used as an asylum for the blind and then as a nursing home where artist Jack B. Yeats, brother of poet W.B. Yeats, spent his final years.

DUBLINBIKES DOCKING STATION 73AT THE OLD IVEAGH MARKETS BUILDING ON FRANCIS STREET

I visited Francis Street twice within a four period and used two different cameras. One camera was a very old Canon 5D III DSLR which I purchased in an unused a few months ago. Apparently the original owner won it as a prize and had no interest in using it. To be honest, I am impressed by its performance. The Second camera was a Sony FX30 APS-C camera without a mechanical shutter and at the moment it is my go-to camera as it is light an produces acceptable images but it does not have an EVF.

THE COW AT WOOD QUAYDOES NOT APPEAR TO BE INTERESTED IN RETURNING TO WOLFE TONE PARK

This bronze sculpture of a cow was relocated to Wood Quay while Wolfe Tone Park was being redeveloped and while this may be a more pleasant location I once said that would prefer to have it at Wolfe Tone Park as it was very popular with local children and at its current location no one appears to notice it. I have changed my mind and maybe she should remain at the current location.

The 'Pomodoro sphere', as it is known locally, acts as a meeting point, photo backdrop and point of interest for thousands of students, staff and tourists as they move through Trinity's beautiful campus.

LONGFORD TERRACE AND CLOSE BYSALTHILL AND MONKSTOWN TRAIN STATION

Longford Terrace, Monkstown is a set of 28 houses in two terraced blocks of Victorian buildings all of which face the sea and the railway track. There is a linear park between the houses and the railway and I think that it is known as Seapoint Park.

AND A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL NEAR THE OLD CENTRAL BANK NOW RENAMED THE CENTRAL PLAZA

The plaza contains the sculpture Crann an Oir (tree of gold) by Derry sculptor Éamonn O'Doherty, which became a symbol of the Central Bank, Irish Banking, and the Celtic Tiger boom and bust. When I was younger I thought that it was named "The Money Tree".

DOUBLE HELIX SCULPTURE BY BRIAN KING A GIFT FROM DR BEATE SCHULER

Irish sculptor Brian King studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, where he later served as Head of the Department of Sculpture from 1984 to 2004. His large-scale painted metal sculptures imbue abstract geometric form with the emotions and movement of colour. King exhibited extensively in Ireland and Europe from the 1960s. He showed at the Irish Exhibition of Living Art from 1964 to 1978, and represented Ireland at the Paris Biennale in 1969 and 1983. His work is held in many public collections including Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork, and the University of Ulster.

RECLINING AND CONNECTED FORMS BY HENRY MOORE

Years ago Henry Moore provided , on loan, a sculpture which became known as 'The King And Queen' and it was located on the Library forecourt but as he was not happy about the location he decided that it should be returned. He had not been happy with the location because he felt that there was a conflict with the forecourt lanterns and because there was not enough sunlight on the north facing forecourt.

CHAC MOOL BY SEBASTIAN NEAR THE LINCOLN GATE ENTRANCE TO TRINITY COLLEGE

Enrique Carbajal González was born in Chihuahua, Northern Mexico, shortly after the end of the Second World War. The artist adopted the pseudonym ‘Sebastián’ after the painting of the martyred Saint Sebastian by Sandro Botticelli. He is best known for his monumental public sculptures, created using steel or concrete, which can now be seen throughout the world. There are currently four of these sculptures in Ireland, all of which have been generously donated by the artist.
