How many of you know of Moland Place in Dublin.
It may be covered in street art and graffiti but this colourful building was once a Welsh Presbyterian Church. Construction began in 1838 and its purpose was to service the needs of Welsh visitors to the city of Dubin. I assume that the bulk of visitors to the church would have been sailors.
The building was designed by the architect William Murray, whose father was a first cousin of the architect Francis Johnston. Over a period of fifteen years he had been involved in the erection of nine district lunatic asylums, all built, with only minor variations, to the formula originally devised with Francis Johnston for the asylum at Armagh. This building retains some of its original features and contributes to the architectural variety of the area as well as providing a record of the presence of the former dissenting church.

The street was named in 1821 after Charles Chetwynd-Talbot, 2nd Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, from 1817 to 1821. It was previously called Cope Street North and Moland Street. The Moland family owned large areas of land in the area with the Deverell family, with Deverall Place and Moland Place remaining as extant place names.
