HENRIETTA STREET TO GRANGEGORMAN COLLEGE CAMPUS
EAST-WEST WALKING AND CYCLE THROUGH ROUTE HENRIETTA STREET TO GRANGEGORMAN COLLEGE CAMPUS
Today I decided to check if the Broadstone-Grangegorman section of the St. Brendan's Way was operational and two people informed me that access was not permitted but they were wrong as you can see from my photographs. However access is limited to certain hours and some locals that I spoke to told me that access to the route will from 9am to 4pm [this claim does not fully agree with notice at entrance]. Before Christmas another person, who was more than annoyed, told me that this limited access does not comply with planning permission requirements.
The east-west walking and cycling access through the Grangegorman campus was opened to the general public in November 2018 but with opening hours that excluded rush hours. The Grangegorman Development Agency said on its website: “The Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe TD officially opened the new link between Grangegorman and Constitution Hill this morning, Friday 16 November. This new link, while temporary, is historic, as it is the first time the Grangegorman site will link directly to the north inner city.” According the the Grangegorman Development Agency “It will be possible to walk from the campus to Bolton Street in 9 minutes. The Grangegorman Development Agency would like to thank the HSE, DIT, Dublin City Council, Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, CIE, the National Transport Authority and Transport infrastructure Ireland for helping to make this happen”.
I live at Henrietta Place [or Bolton Street if I use the front door] and I frequently visit the college campus which is physically very close to my apartment but it is a long walk to get there [about 20-30 minutes rather than about six or seven]. Late in 2018 a new pedestrian-cycle path was opened but it was frequently closed because of construction work and Covid-19 restrictions.
First stage: At the end of Henrietta street there is a gated entrance to Kings Inns and the associate public park.
Second stage: Transit the park and use the pedestrian lights to cross Connstitution Hill road to arrive at the Bus Depot.
Third stage: Use the new pathway beside the Dublin Bus depot to the south of the Broadstone Tram Stop.
