MARIAN STATUES IN DUBLIN
If you are visitor to Ireland you may be surprised to see so many statues of the Virgin Mary dotted around the country and there are at least 28 in Dublin. You will see them in housing estates; outside schools; near churches or holy wells.
The majority of them were installed in the Marian Year of 1954, when entire communities mobilised to erect a statue in their area. Many are now neglected and forgotten but there are still many that are still well maintained by the local community and this is especially true in working class areas. I am planning to photograph as many in Dublin as is possible before they disappear.
