MOTEL ONE BUDGET BOUTIQUE HOTEL [CONSTRUCTION SITE ON UPPER LIFFEY STREET]
I have always considered this street be visually unattractive and I do hope that the new hotel have a positive impact on the street and the area in General but I have yet to be convinced.
Fitzwilliam Real Estate Properties are currently undertaking the construction of a 300 room hotel at the corner of Abbey Street and Liffey Street. When completed in 2020, the hotel will be operated by Motel One in its first venture into the Irish market.
Motel One, a budget boutique hotel chain owned by Dieter Müller, was set up in 2000. It now has over 18,000 rooms in 65 hotels across eight mainland European countries and the UK.
A number of objections were filed against the proposed hotel block before it was given the all-clear by the council. Heritage group An Taisce said the new development would be “an obtrusive and ungainly new element in the view from the Ha’penny Bridge” and requested the submitted plans be revised.
