Many years ago I started to refer to this as the 'hungry tree' as it does not appear to have an official name but recently I have noticed that a number of tourist guides recommend a visit to the 'hungry tree' and a few have used my photographs.
The tree is about eighty years old and it is a London Plane but it is not subject to any protection orders at present which is a pity.
Previously I commented as follows: "I think that you will appreciate why local children never sit on this park bench. It is not usual to see anyone sit of this bench - how about you, would you sit on it?". However, last year a young couple from Chile asked me to photograph them sitting on the bench. I can confirm that they were still alive when I left the park.
