Toll Stations in Cork City, 1917. Livestock and produce entering the City for sale were liable to tolls, and a network of stations, manned by Toll Collectors, covered all approaches. Tolls were abolished in 1927. The best known station is probably that at St Luke's Cross, where the collector's green hut, renovated in recent years by Cork City Council, has long been a landmark.
