RATHFARNHAM WAR MEMORIAL HALL [PHOTOGRAPHED IN AUGUST 2022] 001
RATHFARNHAM WAR MEMORIAL HALL [PHOTOGRAPHED IN AUGUST 2022] 002

I photographed this on a beautiful sunny day almost a year ago when I spent a week in the Brighton Green area of Dublin.

Rathfarnham War Memorial Hall is a community center in Rathfarnham, Dublin, Ireland. It was built in 1923 as a memorial to those who served in World War I. The hall is located on Rathfarnham Road, next to Rathfarnham Parish Church.

The hall is a single-story building with a pitched roof. It is made of red brick with limestone detailing. The front facade features a portico with four Doric columns. The interior of the hall is divided into a main hall and a smaller room known as the Oak Room. The main hall is used for a variety of events, including concerts, dances, and community meetings. The Oak Room is used for more intimate events, such as weddings and christenings.

The hall is owned and operated by Rathfarnham Parish. It is available for rent to community groups and organisations. The hall is also used by the parish for a variety of activities, including Sunday school, youth groups, and adult education classes.

The hall is a valuable resource for the Rathfarnham community. It provides a space for people to gather and to celebrate important events. It is also a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served in World War I.

Here are some additional facts about Rathfarnham War Memorial Hall:

  • The hall was designed by W. Sedgwick Keatinge, who also designed Rathfarnham Parish Church.
  • The contractor for the hall was John A. Stringer, who built many of the nearby homes on Rathfarnham Road and Rathdown Park.
  • The hall was dedicated and opened on January 21, 1923, by Archbishop Gregg.
  • The Oak Room was added to the hall in 1949.
  • The hall was renovated and extended in 2011.

BROWN STREET SOUTH [CONNECTING DONORE AVENUE TO ORMOND STREET AND OSCAR SQUARE - WEAVER'S SQUARE]

South Brown Street is home to the Mercy Family Centre which includes a modern a crèche, Montessori school and adult training centre and result from the renovation of existing buildings plus the addition of a new wing along the street.

The street front is hard but playful, with windows at heights to suit different ages. Screened courtyards hint at a softer, colourful inner world of gardens and play areas.

The street is named after the Brown family, who were prominent landowners in the area in the 18th century. The street was originally known as Brown's Street, but it was renamed South Brown Street in the 19th century to distinguish it from other streets with the same name.

Weaver's Square is a small square in Dublin, Ireland, located in the Liberties area. It is named after the weavers who settled in the area in the 17th century. The square is home to a number of Georgian and Victorian buildings, as well as a few newer apartments. There is also a small park in the center of the square.

Oscar Square is a small park in the Smithfield area. It is named after Oscar Traynor, an Irish republican who was a minister in the first Dáil Éireann. The square was laid out in 1922-24, at the same time as the adjacent Tenters housing estate.

Donore Avenue is a residential street which is located in the south inner city. It is a long street that runs from Parnell Bridge to the Coombe Hospital. The street is home to a mix of Georgian, Victorian, and modern houses. There are also a number of schools, shops, and businesses on the street.

FOR MANY YEARS I HAVE USED JPEGminiPro [BUT I DID NOT UPGRADE TO VERSION 3]

The most recent version is 3.5.3.50941 but I use Version 2.2.9 build 20571. I have downloaded trial copies of Version 3 and could not see any real improvement and could not justify paying an annual subscription that was in fact expensive compared to what I paid for the original. I am in the process of switching to Squash 3 by Realmac [$13.99 per year] as it produces WebP files and because it is a lot less expensive.

JPEGminiPro is a software application that reduces the file size of JPEG photos by up to 5X while preserving the resolution and quality of the original photos. It is a popular tool among photographers, web designers, and anyone who wants to save space on their computer or mobile device.

Pros:

  • Effectively reduces file size: JPEGminiPro is very effective at reducing file size without sacrificing image quality. In most cases, you won't be able to tell the difference between a compressed JPEGmini photo and the original.
  • Easy to use: JPEGminiPro is very easy to use. Just drag and drop your photos into the application, and it will automatically compress them. You can also batch process multiple photos at once.
  • Available for both Mac and Windows: JPEGminiPro is available for both Mac and Windows, so you can use it on any computer.

Cons:

  • Not as powerful as some other image compression tools: There are other image compression tools that can reduce file size even further than JPEGminiPro. However, these tools often produce more noticeable artifacts in the compressed images.
  • Not free: JPEGminiPro is not free.
  • Overall, JPEGminiPro is a great tool for reducing the file size of JPEG photos without sacrificing image quality. It is easy to use and available for both Mac and Windows. If you are looking for a way to save space on your computer or mobile device, JPEGminiPro is a great option.

Here are some additional details about JPEGminiPro:

  • The software uses a proprietary algorithm to reduce file size while preserving image quality.
  • The software supports batch processing, so you can compress multiple photos at once.
  • The software is available for both Mac and Windows.

I could not determine the price as they have changed to an annual subscription:

"Starting with the launch of JPEGmini Pro 3 on October 2020, the licensing model changes. The most important part of this change is that we will now require a yearly fee for updates. Once you buy JPEGmini that version is yours to keep forever, but in order to upgrade to the newest version, we ask for an additional yearly fee. If you are an existing user of JPEGmini, you should receive a popup inside the app allowing you to upgrade with a special discount of 30%. If you don't see the banner inside the app, please email our support - [email protected], with the subject: "Upgrade pricing for JPEGmini Pro 3", stating what was the email that was used to purchase JPEGmini and attach a proof of purchase (this could be a screenshot, or an email with an invoice).
