17 BUS ROUTE TO BE DISCONTINUED FROM 26 NOVEMBER 2023 [THIS DOES IMPACT ON ME]
Video of the area served by the Milltown Luas Tram Stop.
For the last two years I have visited Roebuck Road every Tuesday and Saturday and I travelled there by getting the Tram from Dominick Street to Windy Arbour and then getting the 17 bus to Roebuck Road. Today I discovered that the 17 bus service is to be discontinued from the last Saturday of this month [November 2022].
Phase 5b of the BusConnects Network Redesign commences on the 26th of November and will see the introduction of the Go-Ahead Ireland S4, S6, S8, W2 and L55. This phase will also see the introduction of the S2, 74 and L25 which will be operated by Dublin Bus.
The following Go-Ahead Ireland routes will cease operation from the 26th November 2023: 17, 18, 75/a, 76/a and 175. The 61 service, operated by Dublin Bus, will also cease operation.
These new routes provide services across southern Dublin. S4 Liffey Valley Shopping Centre – Ballyfermot – Crumlin Hospital – Terenure – UCD S6 Tallaght – Rathfarnham Shopping Centre – UCD – Blackrock Station S8 Citywest – Tallaght – Sandyford Luas – Dún Laoghaire W2 Tallaght – Newlands Cross – Liffey Valley Shopping Centre L55 Palmerstown Village – Ballyfermot – Chapelizod
The 17 is not directly replaced by any of the new services and it would appear that, going forward, my best option will be to travel by tram to Milltown where I can get the S4 to the Clonskeagh end of Bird Avenue. I could also get the tram to Windy Arbour and then walk to Roebuck Road - I have already done that few times but it can take more than twenty minutes. I can also get the 11 Bus from O'Connell Street but I have found the service to be infrequent (every 30 minutes), undependable and slow and the buses are often full. I often had to wait an hour or more to get on a bus.
