THE ROY BAKER LIFEBOAT AT HOWTH
ALL WEATHER RNLI LIFEBOAT ROY BAKER III [9 JANUARY 2009]
The lifeboat I photographed back in, the Roy Barker III, is still in service today 9 November 2025.
The boat is Trent-class all-weather lifeboat 14-33 Roy Barker III. It is stationed at Howth in the Republic of Ireland, where it has been on service since 2002.
🧐 Why Is It So Named?
The lifeboat is named in memory of Mr Frederick Roy Barker. Mr. Barker, who was known as Roy, generously left his entire estate to the RNLI. His bequest was used to establish the Roy Barker Memorial Fund. The income from this fund has paid for several lifeboats over the years, with the Roy Barker III at Howth being the third such boat.
