HOODED CROW MOBBING A GREY HERON [AT THE TIME I DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON]

I failed to capture the full sequence of images, as my camera wasn't set up for bird photography at the time. A few days ago, however, I had the photographs analysed to determine the species and activity.

The images clearly show a Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) being mobbed by a Hooded Crow (Corvus cornix).

The larger bird standing in the water is the Grey Heron. It was identified by its characteristic features: large size, long legs, sinuous neck, and the grey/white coloration with black markings on the head and wings.

The smaller bird flying and seemingly attacking is the Hooded Crow, distinguished by its black and grey plumage, specifically the dark head and wings contrasting with the lighter grey body.

The activity captured is known as mobbing, a common behaviour where smaller birds, like crows, aggressively harass a larger bird, such as a heron. This is typically done to drive away a perceived threat to a nesting territory or food source.
