MY VISIT TO KILDARE IN JULY 2009 DID NOT GO WELL
My first and last visit to Kildare town in July 2009 was a photographic misadventure. The train journey was fraught with delays and cancellations, a far cry from the efficient service available today. Upon arrival, I couldn't find any transport to the renowned Japanese Gardens and National Stud, resorting to a sweltering trek under the weight of my Canon 1Ds MkIII and its hefty telephoto lens. The heat was oppressive, and by the time I reached my destination, I was exhausted and concerned about the return journey. To add insult to injury, my camera succumbed to the heat, refusing to focus, and the resulting images were unusable.
In 2009, Kildare town was a charming blend of historical landmarks and modern amenities. The Japanese Gardens, a serene oasis of meticulously manicured landscapes and tranquil ponds, offered a peaceful escape from the bustling town centre. The National Stud, a world-renowned thoroughbred horse breeding facility, attracted visitors with its picturesque grounds and impressive equine heritage.
Today, 15 years later, I decided to revisit those RAW image files, hoping that advancements in AI technology could salvage something from the wreckage. To my surprise, the results were encouraging. While not perfect, the recovered images were usable, a testament to the power of modern image processing.
With renewed optimism, I'm planning a return trip to Kildare town in the coming weeks. This time, armed with the knowledge of past mistakes and the convenience of modern transportation and technology, I anticipate a far more enjoyable and productive experience.
