WHY ROPE WALK?
This building caught my attention because of "@rope walk" and also because I never noticed it before.
According to the planning application The developer proposed the name “Siúlán na Rópaí/ Rope Walk” as it derived from
the Rope Walk which was located directly behind the development site."
Stoneybatter Place is a new student accommodation complex located on Manor Street in Stoneybatter. The "@ropewalk" addition to the name likely refers to the historical presence of rope-making factories in the area.
Ropewalks were long, narrow buildings where ropes were manufactured by hand. These buildings often stretched for hundreds of yards, providing the space needed to lay out the fibers and twist them into ropes. While the ropewalk buildings are no longer standing in Stoneybatter, their legacy lives on in street names and the occasional historical marker.
As for the complex itself, Stoneybatter Place offers modern, purpose-built accommodation for students. It includes a mix of en-suite rooms and studios, all designed with student needs in mind. The complex boasts a range of amenities, including study areas, social spaces, a rooftop terrace, and even a wellness hub. It's designed to provide a comfortable and convenient living environment for students while also promoting a sense of community and well-being.
The location is ideal for students attending nearby educational institutions, such as Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) and SEDA College, both of which are within walking distance. Additionally, Stoneybatter's vibrant atmosphere, with its eclectic mix of cafes, shops, and cultural attractions, offers students a lively and engaging neighbourhood to explore and enjoy.
