THIS ONCE WAS MAUREEN'S GROCERY SHOP

Maureen's Grocery was a well-known and beloved institution in Stoneybatter, Dublin.

Maureen McGuinness, the owner, was a legendary character in the area and was known for her dry wit and "pessimistic attitude". Her shop was a cornerstone of the community, serving locals for over 40 years. It was known for its friendly atmosphere, personal service, and the wide array of goods it stocked.

Maureen's Grocery did close years ago. In its place, now stands Little Deer Comics, an independent comic book shop specialising in small press and creator-owned comics.

Small press comics are comic books published by independent creators or small publishers, as opposed to the larger, more established companies like Marvel or DC. They offer a diverse range of genres, styles, and storytelling approaches that you might not find in mainstream comics.

Here are some key characteristics of small press comics:

Independent Creators: These comics are often created by individual artists, writers, or small teams who are passionate about their work.

Unique Stories: Small press comics explore a wide variety of themes and genres, often tackling niche interests or experimental storytelling techniques.

Limited Runs: These comics are usually printed in smaller quantities compared to mass-market comics, which can make them more collectible or sought after.

Community-Driven: The small press comic scene is often supported by a strong community of creators, retailers, and fans who attend conventions, share work online, and promote each other's projects.

Affordable: Small press comics are typically more affordable than mainstream titles, making them a great way to discover new talent and support independent creators.
