PEDESTRIAN PRIORITY ZONE
At the beginning of April I explored the older part of Chapelizod which is located on the north side of the river Liffey. It is now May 2024 and I am exploring areas south of the river including Chapelizod and Palmerstown.
Pedestrian priority zones are areas where the movement and safety of pedestrians are prioritised over vehicles. These zones are designed to create a safer and more comfortable environment for people who are walking, using wheelchairs, or pushing strollers. They are often implemented in areas with high pedestrian traffic, such as near schools, parks, and in city centres.
In the case of the Chapelizod Bypass, it seems that a pedestrian priority zone has been established near the R112/R148 slipway. This could be part of the city’s efforts to improve pedestrian safety and promote active modes of transportation like walking and cycling. The establishment of such zones often involves the implementation of traffic calming measures, improved crosswalks, and signage indicating the priority of pedestrians.
It’s also worth noting that there have been several improvements to the Chapelizod Bypass and the R112 road over the years. For instance, the speed limit for the bus lanes along the full length of the R148 Chapelizod bypass has been reduced from 80km/hr to 60km/hr. This could also contribute to making the area safer for pedestrians.
However, without more specific details or recent data, it’s difficult to provide more information about this particular pedestrian priority zone in Chapelizod.
