ABOUT THE O'DEVANEY GARDENS PROJECT

THIS IS A LARGE REDEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

O'Devaney Gardens Redevelopment Project:

Located near the Phoenix Park in Dublin 7, the O'Devaney Gardens redevelopment is a large-scale project that is transforming the former social housing complex into a modern, sustainable, and mixed-tenure community.

Key Features:

Housing: The project will deliver 1,044 new homes, including social, affordable purchase, cost rental, and private units. This will help address the housing shortage in Dublin and provide a diverse range of housing options.
Sustainability: The development is designed with a strong emphasis on sustainability, featuring A-rated energy efficiency, green roofs, solar panels, and rainwater harvesting systems.
Community Amenities: The project will include two new parks, dedicated cultural and community spaces, shops, a café, and a crèche. These amenities are intended to enhance the quality of life for residents and foster a strong sense of community.
Transport: While not directly served by the Luas, the development is well-connected to public transportation with multiple bus routes serving the area. The project is also focused on promoting sustainable transportation options. It will include new pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, as well as a car-sharing club with hybrid and electric vehicles.
Progress:

Phase 1: This phase, consisting of 379 social, affordable purchase, and cost rental homes, a park, a crèche, and retail units, is now complete. The first residents moved in back in November 2022.
Phase 2 and beyond: Construction on the remaining phases is ongoing, with completion dates yet to be confirmed.
Significance:

The O'Devaney Gardens redevelopment is a significant project for Dublin, as it is addressing the housing crisis and revitalising a previously neglected area of the city.
The project's focus on sustainability, community-building, and sustainable transportation is setting a new standard for urban development in Ireland.
The development has been designed with community input and aims to create a vibrant and inclusive neighbourhood.
