Belfast's Tribute to Organ Donors At The Botanic Gardens

This was unveiled about a year before I photographed it in May 2017 and I did not really noticed the attached sticker.

In the tranquil setting of Belfast's Botanic Gardens, the Gift of Life Candle sculpture stands as a poignant tribute to the selfless individuals who have given the gift of life through organ donation. This replica of the iconic candle from Galway's Circle of Life Garden serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the transformative power of generosity and the enduring legacy of those we honour.

Unveiling Ceremony: A Cross-Border Collaboration

The sculpture was unveiled in a moving ceremony by the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Alderman Brian Kingston, and the Mayor of Galway, Cllr. Noel Larkin. This cross-border collaboration exemplifies the unifying spirit of organ donation and the shared commitment to raising awareness throughout Ireland.

The candle-shaped memorial, a gift from the Galway Civic Trust - DĂșchas na Gaillimhe on behalf of the City of Galway, stands as a testament to the enduring bond between the two cities.

Galway's Circle of Life Garden: A Sanctuary of Remembrance

The original Gift of Life Candle resides in the heart of the Circle of Life Garden in Salthill, Galway. This serene sanctuary offers a place of solace and reflection for families and friends to honour their loved ones. The garden celebrates the lives of organ donors and the profound impact their selfless acts have on countless others.

The candle sculpture symbolises the light of humanity that shines through organ donation, illuminating the path towards hope and healing. It serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of those who have given the ultimate gift.

A Global Tribute to Organ Donors

The Circle of Life Garden is not only a place of remembrance but also a celebration of life's interconnectedness. Its heritage stone wall incorporates stones from all 32 counties of Ireland, representing the nationwide reach of organ donation. A global heritage stone trail, featuring stones from each continent, further emphasises the universality of this selfless act.

The Strange Boat Donor Foundation: Pioneering Organ Donation Awareness

Established by the Strange Boat Donor Foundation, the Circle of Life Garden has become a cherished landmark since its opening in 2008. The foundation's tireless efforts in promoting organ donation awareness have touched countless lives, inspiring hope and fostering a culture of generosity.
