GRATTAN BRIDGE

GRATTAN BRIDGE AREA 19 JULY 2024

Today when I visited Grattan Bridge I noticed an increased amount of gull aggression as it was the peak of their nesting season. Gulls, particularly Herring Gulls which are common in Dublin City, become very protective of their nests and young during this time, typically between April and July.

They may swoop down, vocalise loudly, or even dive-bomb people who they perceive as a threat to their nests or chicks. This behaviour is instinctive and aimed at protecting their offspring.

To minimise the risk of being targeted, it's advisable to maintain a safe distance from nesting areas, avoid approaching gulls directly, and refrain from feeding them. If you encounter aggressive gulls, move away calmly and avoid sudden movements.
