ALL ABOUT GRAND CANAL QUAY

GRAND CANAL QUAY IS DIFFERENT EVERY TIME I VISIT

One thing that should be noted is the quantity of tents in the area and this is most likely related that there is currently a large number of asylum seekers for whom there is currently no accommodation available. There are tents under many of the bridges within the immediate area.

Grand Canal Quay in Dublin Docklands Grand Canal Quay is located in the Dublin Docklands. It does not directly connect to the River Liffey. Instead, it connects to the Grand Canal Dock, which is connected to the Liffey via three canal gates or locks known as Westmoreland Lock, Buckingham Lock, and Camden Lock.

Trinity Portal marks the first phase of the regeneration of the 5.2-acre Trinity East campus. Two bonded warehouses are being transformed into a 5,500m² co-working and innovation centre, creating an exciting space for 300 people. The hub will be public facing, with a café, two public squares, and events space.

Google’s Presence Google has a significant presence in the Dublin Docklands, particularly around the Grand Canal Quay. The Google EU Headquarters, known as ‘Google Docks’, is the tallest commercial building in Dublin.

The campus represents an amazing workplace for Google’s ever-growing sales, marketing, finance, and engineering teams.

Waterways Centre The Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre, also known as ‘the box in the docks’, is a unique building built on water and accessed by way of a footbridge from the quay wall. The centre offers an informative journey of the waterways from the pre-Christian period to its modern use.

Old Bridge visible in some of my photographs a railway bridge that crosses the Grand Canal Dock. It is a well-constructed stone railway bridge that shows evidence of skilled masonry and engineering. It formed part of Ireland’s first railway line, the Dublin and Kingstown Railway. The bridge was constructed on a skew plan, with its skewed masonry continued through the arch barrel. The combination of granite and limestone construction materials provides textural variation to the main elevations, and the flared abutments and the very low arch give it a somewhat dramatic appearance. The bridge is significant as it forms part of the first railway line in Ireland and is also part of a significant collection of industrial buildings located on Grand Canal Quay and associated with both transportation and manufacturing.

Malting Tower is an old railway tower located at Grand Canal Quay, at the railway bridge and close to the Grand Canal Dock railway station. Osteria Lucio, a modern venue with a retro look, inspired by the long-standing friendship of Michelin-starred Ross Lewis of Chapter One and renowned Italian chef Luciano Tona, is situated at The Malting Tower.
