ABOUT THE DOCKLANDS STATION
Docklands Train Station
Location: Sheriff Street Upper in Dublin's Docklands area. Positioned close to the 3Arena, the Convention Centre, the EPIC Emigration Museum, and many offices in the IFSC.
Services: Part of the Western Commuter rail line operated by Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail). It offers commuter services to destinations including:
- Maynooth
- Leixlip
- M3 Parkway
History: Opened in 2007 as part of the Irish government's Transport 21 initiative. Its purpose was to ease the load on Connolly Station and better serve the growing Dublin Docklands area.
Significance
- Docklands Connectivity: Provides a crucial transport link for residents, workers, and visitors to the revitalized Docklands.
- Commuter Services: Expands the reach of Dublin's commuter rail network, offering convenient access to the city centre and further destinations west of the city.
Facilities: While relatively small compared to major stations, it offers essentials like ticket machines, real-time train information boards, and access to other transport (Luas, Dublinbikes, buses).
Note: Docklands Station is a terminus on the Western Commuter line, meaning trains from Docklands travel WESTBOUND towards destinations like Maynooth and M3 Parkway, and would NOT go towards Connolly or Pearse. I added this as I have seen some incorrect claims online.
The architectural design of Docklands Station features a striking curved roofline, making it stand out even within the modern Docklands development. It is sometimes referred to as "Spencer Dock Station" due to its proximity to Spencer Dock.
