URBAN SAFARI BY BRIAN AND EOIN BYRNE
URBAN SAFARI BY BRIAN AND EOIN BYRNE [SCULPTURE IN CONTEXT 2016]
Sculpture In Context 2016 at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9. 8th September to 21st October 2016
One of the events that I really look forward to every year is the Sculpture In Context exhibition in the Botanic Gardens and 2016 no exception.
The artwork is titled "Urban Safari" and was created by the artist duo Brian Byrne and Eoin Byrne.
About the Sculpture
Artists: Brian & Eoin Byrne
Title: Urban Safari
Year: 2016
Medium: Welded mild steel and a recycled Dublin City Council "wheelie bin."
Recognition: This specific piece was one of the winners of the Sculpture in Context Award for Large Outdoor Works of Distinction that year.
The piece is a clever commentary on urban wildlife, specifically the way foxes have adapted to city life by scavenging—a scene very familiar to anyone living in Dublin. The "willow-like" texture is actually achieved through intricate steel work, giving the foxes a natural, organic feel that contrasts perfectly with the industrial plastic of the bin.
