Glasheen is a suburb in south central Cork city in Ireland. The area earned its name from the stream that flows through it, under the Glasheen Road. Glasheen means small stream in Irish. After the Siege of Cork in 1690 and the demolition of the city wall, prominent families started to move out of the congested city to the peacefulness of the countryside to make their homes — including the Sheares family, who were noted bankers. In 1729, they built their home, which is still standing today, in the village on a hill opposite today’s popular Flannery’s Pub. Two sons of the house, John and Henry Sheares were executed in Dublin on 14th July 1798 on the charge of treason for their part in the United Irishmen movement.

12 August 2021 my activities were constrained because of Covid-19 restrictions bur, despite a much reduced public transport service, I decided that it would be a good idea to visit St. Finbarr's Cemetery in Cork but from then every thing went wrong.

I got a bus but I discovered that it did not go near the cemetery so I decided to get off and find my way by foot and when I stood up the 70-200mm lens detached from the body of the camera and while it did fall on the seat rather than on the floor it hit hard metal and was damaged and I ended up with a lot of dust on the sensor.

When I got off the bus my iPhone could not get a signal so I had no idea as to where I was.

I decided to go to the other side of the road and wait for a bus back to the city but after 45 minutes I decided that was a bad idea. After stopping a number of people, there were few around, and asking for directions I eventually found the cemetery. Then I had my first bit of good luck - there was an operational toilet [my day could have been much worse].

After about fifteen minutes it began to rain, and it was really heavy. After another thirty minutes of really heavy rain I decided to give up and find a bus stop. I waited at the stop for close to an hour only to realise that it would have taken me less than half an hour to walk to the city centre.

I revisited the cemetery in May 2022 and had a much better experience.
