Sculpture in Context has established itself as the largest outdoor sculpture exhibition in Ireland. This independent, artist led exhibition provides a unique and challenging platform for artists, and asks them to respond creatively to a specific location.
This annual event is an open submission exhibition. Each year a panel of selectors is invited to adjudicate the exhibition. This year sculptors from Ireland, US, UK, Netherlands, Hungary, France, Canada, Finland, and Estonia, present 122 works in a range materials including glass, resin, bronze, concrete, ceramic and steel.
The National Botanic Gardens, with its recently restored Great Palm House, offers a magnificent setting for this major exhibition of sculpture which has been hosted at the Gardens for six years. The sculptures are displayed throughout the gardens, glasshouses and in the gallery above the Visitor Centre.
Sculpture in Context has previously exhibited at venues such as Dublin Castle, Fernhill Gardens, and, Kilmainham Gaol and over its 22 years has developed into a major event in the visual arts calendar.
The National Botanic Gardens are located 3 Kilometres North of Dublin city centre, 10 minutes by bus from O’Connell Street, Dublin. (Nos.13 and 19)
